Despite the seamless functionality of UpMail for sending emails, encountering issues with email delivery can occur. In this article, we'll explore the various reasons why emails sent from UpMail may not reach their intended recipients. By understanding the root causes, you take action accordingly.
Why Your Emails Might Not Reach Recipients
1. The Recipients Email Address is Invalid or was Inputted Incorrectly
Although it may seem obvious, first and foremost, check to see that you've inputted the email address correctly. Mistakes can happen when quickly copying and pasting from once source to another.
If you've confirmed the email address was entered correctly, check if the email is valid by using this tool. Simply input the recipients email address and the tool will confirm its ability to receive emails by checking formatting and the existence of the mailbox. If a person's email is considered invalid, it's called a hard bounce and will not be delivered.
Alternatively, you can also go to your Contacts and/or Groups within UpMail to see if the email is flagged as invalid. A checkmark will appear in the Invalid column if this is the case.
2. The Recipient Unsubscribed to Email Communication
If you are sending emails to a large group of contacts, recipients may unsubscribe from your email communication.
In UpMail, you can verify if a contact has unsubscribed from your email communication by navigating to your Contacts or Groups section. If you see a checkmark in the Unsubscribed column next to a particular contact, it indicates that they have opted out of receiving emails from you. This status overrides any inclusion on your email list, aligning with standard email regulations.
3. The Email Soft Bounced or is Being Blocked by the Recipient
As mentioned previously, a hard bounce is when an email is undeliverable due to the email address being invalid. If an email soft bounces, it means that there is a temporary issue with the recipients email such as a mailbox being full or a problem with the recipients server. Soft bounces can also occur if the email message is too large or the email message is being blocked due to content.
There are a couple of ways to identify if an UpMail email has soft bounced:
1. The email shows as 'Not Delivered' in your Sent UpMail emails
2. The email does not appear in your Outlook or Gmail Sent messages
If this is the case, we recommend emailing the recipient directly from Outlook or Gmail and adding the original UpMail email as a webpage link to ensure the message is received.

4. Your Email or Email Address Has Poor Deliverability
There are a number of factors that can effect the deliverability of an email and email address.
When it comes to email addresses, two primary factors heavily influence the success of your email deliverability: your IP address reputation and sender reputation. Sending emails to invalid email addresses or distributing content that may be flagged as spam can significantly impact both your IP and sender reputation. As a result, your overall reputation decreases, diminishing the likelihood of your emails reaching recipients' inboxes.
When it comes to email deliverability, both the subject lines and contents of the email play crucial roles. Subject lines featuring excessive capitalization, over-punctuation, or spam-triggering words like "free" or "credit card" are often flagged as spam, potentially impacting deliverability. Similarly, within the email body, ensure that headers, text snippets, and images are all relevant and align with the email's purpose. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) utilize built-in filters to identify spam content, directing it away from recipients' inboxes.
