In UpMail, a placeholder designates a specific area within the template that requires user action. These placeholders require the user to provide information or upload/add content in order to complete and send the email.
There are three types of placeholders within UpMail:
1. Image Placeholders
2. Text Placeholders
3. Document/Link Placeholders
Adding an Image Placeholder
To add an image placeholder, UpMail Champions should use the blank images with the text 'REPLACE'. By default, these placeholder images are uploaded to your account for this purpose. Add the placeholder image to the section where you would like users to replace the image.
If a user tries to send an email without updating the image, there will be no warning, however, it is very obvious that the user will need to update this image.
To update the image, the user will click on the image and the image options will appear within the Recommended Content on the right. As an UpMail Champion, you can set which images will appear in the Recommended Content.

Adding a Text Placeholder
Text placeholders are commonly used for areas of content that need to be updated based on the email being sent such as dates, packages, rates, etc.
Text placeholders are added to text snippets by using a [[double bracket]]. This is the same way merge fields appear within text snippets. The user can type directly into the text snippet to update the content.
If a user tries to send the email without updating the placeholders, a placeholder warning will appear.
Adding a Document/Link Placeholder
Document/Link placeholders are used to indicate that a document or link need to be added to a supporting content image.
To set a document/link placeholder, upload the image you would like to use (within the email composer or content library) then click the pencil icon in the top right corner. Add the Label and select the checkbox beside 'Use as placeholder image'.
When the user clicks on the supporting content within the email template, they will be prompted to add a URL or upload a document.
If the user tries to send the email without adding a link or document, a placeholder warning will appear.
